God hates children

August 9th, 2008 by Stephen

…and their parents too. Why? Just look at the weather. By my reconing this makes the 7th consequtive weekend with a major winter storm. We were awaken by the hail this morning. If your kid plays  an outdoor sport (soccer, rugby) just forget about it,  most of the sports fields have truned to goo and been closed. So you are stuck with bored kids indoors- again.

For now we are going off to see a movie. Then this evening we are going to a “sweet-off”, a desert making competition. My pancreas quivers in anticipatory delight.

A sweet-off sounds like major league fun, although in my head it is currently playing out like a kiwi-heavy “Iron Chef”.

As a kid I used to win prizes at the local agricultural show for my swiss roll, you know. And my victoria sponge. Plus, I have finally mastered cranachan. I could be a contender…

Oh yummy!!! I make pretty decent desserts; can I come too?
Oh. I guess it’s over by now. Was it very, very good?

Btw, don’t complain too much about your winter… At least it is that: winter, and supposed to be icky.
Our “summer” so far has been eerily, and soggily, similar to what you are describing - only a teensy bit warmer. In fact, just a couple days ago I was thinking “gee, this is like winter in Wellington” as I was wrapping myself in a fleece poncho before sitting down in front of the tube (in early August!!!). There is not much else to do except watch chunks of the road float by as yet another torrential downpour soaks the area… (I am not kidding.)

So I am wondering… if you’re getting days on end of rain, and we are getting days on end of rain, who’s getting all the sunshine???
