Adventure Travel

Well, I’m sure Stephen will have a much lengthier and more entertaining version of this in a couple days, but in the meantime, here’s a quick update for Viewers At Home:

Stephen spent 10 hours in the car yesterday, driving to visit a friend in the middle of what might be the largest evacuation in US history. He almost ended up spending the night in the car, but managed instead to find one of the handful of off-highway gas stations in the state that still had unleaded to sell. He couldn’t go back to Orlando to fly out even if he wanted to, since they’re closing the airport two hours before his flight was to have departed, and it sounds like they couldn’t get him on anything flying out of Jacksonville, either, so he’s taking his rental car direct to Atlanta, to hopefully pick up our flight to Philly at 5 this evening. I say “hopefully”, because the highways north out of Florida are all apparently bumper-to-bumper and moving at 15 mph. He left early, so with a little luck he missed the worst of it.

I, on the other hand, went shopping with my mom at some sari shops (Decatur is suddenly full of Indians ! Who knew ?) and got a cute little mirrored choli, then out to dinner with Mom and Joel, then out to Second Dinner with Ken and an old school friend, Tanya. (Ooh, reminiscing…)

Okay, so we arrived in Atlanta Sunday night — 12:30 Monday morning, actually. It is now Friday morning. I’ve had Mexican food 5 times. Guess what I’m having for lunch ?

New Zealand has this labor shortage, right ? I ask you, why can’t we import some Mexicans ?
