Some pics from the show. I’d inundate you, but… well, we’ll see how long it takes to upload these. That’s the new door for the ger, behind the Evil King (in his Evil Hat) and his Zombie Minions.
Hey, guys! The new ger door looks totally awesome. Nope, have never seen the design that the tiger-thing is based on. What did you base the clouds on? I like the way they look; how’d you get the dark outlines around them? (Stitching, applique layers, etc.). The sky-blue is also a nice effect — though really, if you were going to do that, then you should have made the outside edge coral-orange rather than red! Is it felt? Is the tiger all applique, or part painted?
I want to know how you can *TELL* that those are the Evil King’s zombies. I mean, how you can tell they’re *zombies*.
Nice BLUE PANTS, there, Evil King! And, nice HAT. Very evil.
The tiger was taken from “2000 years of Chinese Costume”, from a pre-Qin embroidery motif (the fabric had these tigers scattered all over, with those shell-shaped clouds and sort of ribbons, if I recall correctly). The tigers were even *more* attenuated, with slightly longer snakier tails, and in a more horizontal posture. I took the liberty of giving ours a second front leg, too, as the original(s) for some reason only had one.
It’s all felt, applique, on a navy blue canvas back. The clouds are two layers, with black on the bottom. The tiger is solid black, with the orange stripes cut smaller to leave a black outline. The whiskers are black rat-tail cord couched on. At some point, I may stich a little chip of amber or malachite or something into the eye.
The clouds are adapted from embroidery patterns — at least in the general weight/style of the curves and spirals, since I couldn’t find any actual depictions of period doors, or even a suitable cloud-ish motif that would fit in a corner. :^P I’m lucky, probably, in that I came up with all of this *before* I got the pics you sent of the old door, ’cause those clouds are *completely* different and would have thrown me off totally.
I like the sky-blue more than I at first thought I would. You’re of course correct that a coral border would have been better to match the turquoise ground. I think we were lucky, really, to have the choice of the sky blue, and the saffron yellow-orange for the tiger. There was ialso available bright yellow and bright halloween orange, but no red-orange. For that matter, I’m grateful the felt itself is wool, except for the red, which alas is acrylic.
You can tell they’re zomies because their eyes are glowing red.

Zombies always wear too much eye-liner. I thought that was common knowledge. ;)

And for zombie fans, I would direct your attention to the new British “RomZomCom”, “Shaun of the Dead” ( http://uip.co.uk/romzom/ )…

Saw a trailer for it last night (on before “Dawn of the Dead” – naturally). Looked pretty funny… mind you, “DotD” had some yucks too.
