House Necropsy
Posted in travel on 08/06/2003 06:11 am by StephenSo, on the way down from Chelmsford this morning (oops, let slip where I am staying- no matter, I sleep somewhere else tonight!) I dropped by the house to see the state of dismemberment. The house was still standing, but a truck was parked in front. I got out and checked, and found a demolition team hard at work inside. Apparantly the dry-wall has to be removed and disposed of separately from the rest of the house. So, the studs were up but all the interior walls were gone- the house was gutted like a fish.
The beautiful wooden bookcases were quite well attached, as the demo guys told of what a pain it was to remove. One of them took them home, though, so at least they live on somewhere else. The amusing bit is that inside the walls of the art room closet was a note, dated from 1988 asking “why are you demolishing this?” with the names of the guys who did the work then. Pretty weird. I was happy to see that they are at least salvaging the windows from the back porch, though I don’t know if they plan to save much else.
The wreckers probably come around the 15th to tear down the shell. I won’t be here to check then, But I am sure we can get a friend to swing by and take some digital photos.
Only 3 days left in Boston. Less than 3 weeks ’till New Zealand! Woo!
